Vitaphone racing is a German team who takes part in the FIA Grand Tourer Championship. They are the current leaders in the newly created FIA GT1 Championship and lead the table with a total of 111 points. The teams name is based on Vitaphone who are their main sponsors. They have been using the Maserati MC12 since 2005.
Background History – They are arguably the most successful team in the history of the FIA world championship having won five manufacturers’ championships and four drivers’ championships. The leader of the team is Rafael Calafell. Vitaphone racing have enjoyed continued success in the Grand Tourer championships.
Previous track record – They won the 2005 championship with a Maserati MC12 with Maserati winning the manufacturers title. Again in 2006 they won the title and both their lead drivers, Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels were the joint champions in the driver’s standings. They again won both the drivers and team’s championships in 2007 with Thomas Biagi winning the drivers championship. In 2008 they claimed their fourth consecutive manufacturers’ championship, thereby asserting a massive deal of dominance over the team championships in the Grand Tourer Championships. They entered an Aston Martin DB9 at Le Mans in 2008, therefore for the first time using a car other than the Maserati MC12 since 2005.

Their spell of dominance continued in 2009 as they won the team championship for a fifth time in a row. By the looks of things that spell of dominance is set to continue with Vitaphone well on their way to winning the inaugural FIA GT1 championship in 2010.
